Enhancing the relationship between people and their environment through natural resource management, community based approaches and facilitation 

Mieke Bourne is the Regreening Africa Programme Manager and lead Stakeholder engagement process specialist. She works at the intersection of science, practice and policy at World Agroforestry (ICRAF). 

She is passionate about enhancing the relationship between people and their environment. She has over 13 years of experience working on natural resource management, community based approaches and facilitation.

Mieke co-developed the Stakeholder Approach to Risk-informed and Evidence-based Decision-making (SHARED). This is a demand-driven, tailored and interactive engagement process for collaborative learning and co-negotiation of decisions to achieve mutually agreed upon development outcomes.

Prior to joining ICRAF in 2012, she worked with the Western Australian State Government and Landcare groups working on participatory estuary and catchment management and river ecology projects.  

Her work has focused on Sub-Saharan Africa for the past decade. She currently works on a number of high profile and cross country research and research in development projects.
