Increasing public awareness of the importance of environmental conservation

Margaret is a student at Egerton University pursuing BSc. Ecotourism and Hospitality management. She is the chairperson of the ecotourism and hospitality association at Egerton University that’s involved in the conservation of the environment and creating awareness on the same to the community and students at the university.

In 2006, Margaret was part of a international tree planting movement dubbed “Plant for the Planet” Being exposed to the need for conservation at such a young age drove her to actively participate in conservation efforts in her adulthood.

The association engages in tree planting and clean up activities in and around Egerton campus in Nakuru County. The students volunteer their time and effort to see the projects through. The community gets to work in a clean environment and learn about climate change during the talks during the tree planting sessions.

The association has  partnered with the Faculty of Environment and Resources Development at Egerton University to spearhead environment related activities at the university.
