Joyce is the co-founder and Chairperson of the Muithua Farmers Cooperative Society. The cooperative, an aggregate of smaller informal groups, was founded in November 2017 to unite farmers in the region. Joyce was formerly a member of Mwangaza Tree Growers, one of the groups that aggregated to form the cooperative. The cooperative currently has 37 groups with over 1000 members.
The cooperative initially made chicken feed but due to challenges with getting a KEBS certification, they pivoted. They now grow green grams, vegetables, mangoes and practice agroforestry.
Due to high production, they suffered heavy post harvest losses. To mitigate the losses, they purchased a drier for the mango produce. The dried mangoes are packaged and have a shelf life of up to six months.
The cooperative has since acquired a 6.7ha piece of land to increase production and constructed an aggregation centre to accommodate the increased production.
Together with Joyce, the secretary Tabitha Kithome and the treasurer Esther Musyimi help run the organisation.
