Acknowledging and strengthening ongoing community efforts is one of the critical actions for successful and sustainable landscape restoration in Africa since they are key to initiating, sustaining and scaling up restoration (Global Landscapes Forum (GLF), 2018). Moreover, enabling and supporting groups that are often marginalised such as youth and women is essential to enabling community restoration efforts.
This session therefore aims to provide recommendations on how women and youth can be meaningfully engaged in restoration
The session’s specific objectives are:
- To discuss ways in which women and youth can be meaningfully engaged in decision making processes for restoration.
- To highlight some of the challenges/bottlenecks to youth and women participation in restoration and come up with ideas on how to solve them.
- To showcase opportunities for youth and women in restoration including linkages to sources of finances, capacity building and networking opportunities for knowledge sharing.
