Kiunga Kareko is responsible for national leadership and strategic and technical support of the WWF-Kenya forestry work within WWF priority landscapes and seascapes. He has over 25 years’ experience in programme management in the field of sustainable management of natural resources which spans across various geographical and socio-cultural areas in Kenya and the Eastern Africa region. His work has involved multi-stakeholder processes and addressed issues ranging from resource governance at local level to policy work with governments, private sector and civil society on the contribution of natural resources to local livelihoods and economic development. He has a Master in Natural Resources Studies from the University of Queensland. Kiunga is the National Forest Programme Manager and the Forest Practice Focal point for WWF-Kenya. The latter provides guidance for WWF’s global work on forests. Previously held positions include Programme Manager for WWF-Kenya’s Coastal Kenya Programme, Technical Manager for WWF’s Eastern Africa Coastal Forests Ecoregion Programme, Participatory Forest Management Coordinator and Forestry Officer in charge of farm forestry extension services for Kenya Forest Service. He has authored or co-authored several publications, technical consultancy reports and belongs to several international, regional, and national professional bodies
